Rep. Cuellar Releases Statement on Mines Road Being Named 2nd Most Congested Road Segment for Trucks

Washington | Arturo C. Olivarez, DC Press Secretary (956-970-1441), November 29, 2023

Today, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28) released the following statement after Mines Road in Webb County was named the 2nd Most Congested Road Segment for Trucks in a report by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute:

“Mines Road is a critical roadway for personal and commercial vehicle travel in Laredo. Laredoans know firsthand the difficulties of congestion on Mines Road, and this report confirms that there is much work to be done in addressing this issue,” said U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28). “In 2021, I voted for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to provide crucial federal funding to expand and enhance our transportation infrastructure, including Mines Road and Hachar-Reuthinger Road. I also secured $3,000,000 in Congressionally directed funding last year to create a new road connecting Mines Road to I-35 to alleviate traffic congestion and improve roadway safety. Most recently, I helped secure $1.9 billion for Webb County authorized by TxDOT’s 2024 Unified Transportation Program (UTP). I look forward to continuing our work with TxDOT and local officials to deliver relief for Mines Road commuters.”
