El Cenizo, TX – Today, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28) announced $1,150,000 in Congressionally directed funding for the El Cenizo Street Improvements Project. The funds will be used to pave Morales Street and Hernandez Street in El Cenizo, which are vulnerable to flooding and hazardous to residents.

Good, quality roads have a far-reaching impact on South Texas communities. The El Cenizo Street Improvements Project will ensure safer streets for local commuters, greater economic development opportunities for businesses, and enhanced accessibility for first responders.

“The safety of our community always comes first. I secured this Congressionally directed funding to provide El Cenizo residents with the proper roadway infrastructure they need to travel safely and securely,” said Dr. Cuellar, a Senior Member of the House Appropriations Committee. “The renovated roads will also ensure first responders are able to reach El Cenizo residents in times of need. Thank you to Webb County Precinct 1 Commissioner Jesse Gonzalez and El Cenizo Mayor Carina Hernandez for working with me to deliver these much-needed road improvements. In Congress, I will continue to fight for El Cenizo and improved transportation infrastructure in our communities.”

“The El Cenizo Streets project will help improve the critical safety upgrades that will help the community who live, work, and travel these streets with more ease on a daily basis,” said Webb County Precinct 1 Commissioner Jesse Gonzalez.

“Federal funding for street improvement projects in underserved rural cities is vital to enhance infrastructure and promote economic growth. Locally, these funds ensure that our residents have safe and accessible transportation routes. This investment not only enhances the quality of life for our residents but also provides much relief to our city's infrastructure,” said El Cenizo Mayor Carina Hernandez.

Dr. Cuellar is a strong supporter of quality transportation infrastructure. He previously secured $1,500,000 in federal funding for street improvements in Rio Bravo. He also secured $1,600,000 in federal funding for safe streets and roads in Webb County.
