Zapata, TX — Today, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced $58,627,934 million in transportation funding for Zapata County. The funds are authorized through the Texas Department of Transportation’s 2023 Unified Transportation Program (UTP), which is the state’s 10-year plan to guide the development of transportation work across the state. Historic transportation funding from last year’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Congressman Cuellar helped pass, contributes to the more than $58 million in funding, which is a $8 million increase in funding from 2022. “Zapata County is a vital piece of South Texas’ transportation and highway system. This funding will facilitate trade within South Texas and increase development across the county,” said Congressman Cuellar, a senior member on the House Appropriations Committee. “I am proud to have helped pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, where most of the increase has come from. I am committed to continue to bring federal dollars for new and improved infrastructure across South Texas.” “Congressman Henry Cuellar will be at the Zapata County courthouse tomorrow announcing 58.6 million in TxDOT funding for Zapata County. These funds will be used to continue to improve highways in our county . I want to thank Congressman Cuellar for his continued support for Zapata County,” said Zapata County Judge Joseph Rathmell.
