Floresville, TX – Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced $127,300 in federal funding to the City of Floresville. These funds, awarded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Community Facilities program, will be used to replace six utility trucks for the Public Works Department.

“Essential community services are imperative to the development of our rural towns,” said Congressman Cuellar. “This federal investment will give the City of Floresville’s Public Works Department the ability to replace outdated and high-mileage utility trucks with six new vehicles. With this new fleet of trucks, these workers can continue providing necessary services to the residents of Floresville. As a senior member on the Appropriations Committee, I am committed to funding programs that grant our local governments with the resources and monies needed to maintain quality service – while improving the quality of life for all residents. I’d like to thank Mayor Cecelia Gonzalez-Dippel, City Manager Henrietta Turner, City Council members, as well as all City employees for their hard work and commitment in providing essential services to their community.”

This Federal Investment will be used to replace six utility trucks for the city due to high mileage and excessive repairs on the current vehicles. The trucks will enable the maintenance and operators of the Public Works Department to better serve the 6,400 residents of Floresville.

The total cost of the project is $231,593. The City of Floresville will provide the remaining cost of $104,293.

Essential community infrastructure is key in ensuring that rural areas enjoy the same basic quality of life and services enjoyed by those in urban areas. Community Facilities Programs offer direct loans, loan guarantees, and grants to develop or improve essential public services and facilities in communities across rural America. These amenities help increase the competitiveness of rural communities in attracting and retaining businesses that provide employment and services for their residents.
