LAREDO MORNING TIMES: Cuellar wins by a landslide

Cuellar wins by a landslide

Incumbent Henry Cuellar won by a landslide the Democratic primary for the 28th District of Texas seat.

Cuellar, D-Laredo, had 90.3 percent of the vote. His opponent, William Hayward, had 9.7 percent.

The U.S. Congressman will face Republican Zeffen Hardin and Green Party candidate Michael Cary in the general election Nov. 8.

Surrounded by City of Laredo officials in Washington, Cuellar said he was excited.

He also congratulated his brother, incumbent Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar, for leading in his race.  “I’m happy for him,” he said.

He thanked voters for their support throughout the years.  “I’m very grateful to the people of Laredo and Webb County,” he said.

Cuellar, a native Laredoan, has been a U.S. congressman since 2005
