Congressman Cuellar secures funding to combat drug trafficking

LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - Millions of dollars have been secured to fund the combat drug trafficking.
Congressman Henry Cuellar helped increase funding for the Department of Defense's Counter- drug program to an additional 110 million dollars.

Also, 19 million dollars will go to the Texas National Guard to fight against the drug trafficking in Texas and the U.S. southern command will receive 25 million dollars toward existing intelligence.

Cuellar says that money will also provide opportunity to train and work with foreign countries that are known to traffic drugs to the U.S. specifically Mexico and Central America.

"The drugs that have been seized by the department of homeland for example are almost the same amount, 10 years ago or even now it's the same. It hasn't gone down we got to do a better job in working with our partners outside the United States", said Cuellar.

With this increase in funding 192 point two million dollars has gone toward the National Guard counter drug program.
