Una reunión celebrada ayer entre autoridades locales con representantes de las compañías ferroviarias y de la Administración Federal de Ferrocarril, sembró la esperanza de reducir los graves problemas de congestión y bloqueo de cruceros del tren en la ciudad.

“Creo que lo más importante de la junta es que hay bastantes deseos de colaboración por parte de las compañías Kansas City Southern y Union Pacific, para comenzar a resolver esta problemática”, afirmó el alcalde Pete Sáenz.

La reunión fue convocada por el congresista federal Henry Cuéllar quien invitó a funcionarios de la Administración Federal de Ferrocarril, para ofrecer alternativas de solución para los bloqueos de cruceros que afectan en esta ciudad a miles todos los días.

En la junta también estuvieron oficiales del Buró de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza encabezados por David Higgerson, director de la oficina de campo del distrito de Laredo y por Greg Álvarez, nuevo director del puerto.

“Para nosotros era muy importante reunirnos para comenzar a trabajar en un plan que nos ayude a combatir el problema y después de la junta sentimos que vamos en la vía correcta”, dijo el regente municipal Jesús Olivares.

·         "I think the most important of the board is that there are many wishes of cooperation from the Kansas City Southern and Union Pacific companies to begin to solve this problem," said Mayor Pete Saenz.

·         The meeting was convened by Congressman Henry Cuellar who invited officials from the Federal Railroad Administration, to provide alternative solutions for locks cruise affecting thousands in this city every day.

·         At the meeting were also officers of US Customs and Border Protection headed by David Higgerson, director of the field office of the district of Laredo and Greg Alvarez, new director of the port.

·         "For us it was important to start working together on a plan that will help us combat the problem and after the meeting feel that we are on the right track," said City Regent Jesus Olivares.
