(BTA part of Washington Contingent)…The contingent was in the nation’s capital last week. The issue under discussion was the banking issue. Banks are abandoning the border region, all along the U.S./Mexico border. They say it is for business reason. Others say it is because of the high cost to comply with money laundering laws. The Border Trade Alliance joined Imperial County representatives and others in a meeting with Texas Representatives Henry Cuellar and Will Hurd and California Representative Juan Vargas. Representatives from various banking associations also attended the meeting.
