El Paso forum to look at ways to enhance border economy By Vic Kolenc / El Paso Times Posted: 09/08/2014 09:08:09 PM MDT REPORTERVic Kolenc An all-day forum looking at ways to make this region more economically competitive will be held in El Paso Friday by the Border Legislative Conference. U.S. Reps. Beto O'Rourke, D-El Paso, Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, and Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, N.Y. are scheduled to be on a panel looking at trade and other economic issues along the Mexico and Canada borders with the United States. The mayors of El Paso, Las Cruces, and Juarez are scheduled to be part of a panel discussion on enhancing the regional economy. The luncheon speaker will be Stefan Selig, head of the International Trade Administration. The Regional Economic Competitiveness Forum will be from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday, at the El Paso convention center Downtown. It's free and open to the public.
