Today Congressman Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) announced that he has returned to Washington D.C. and is ready to work on the challenges facing the nation, including job creation. The Republican majority is keeping Congress out of session until the third week of January. “We cannot afford to wait any longer to resolve the problems that the American people are facing,” said Congressman Cuellar. “The people I represent in Congress do not have the luxury to put their lives on hold for two or three weeks until Congress goes to session.” “As their voice in Congress, we need to get to work now and come up with solutions instead of obstructions. We need to work to reignite the American dream and make sure that we strengthen the middle class and those who are willing to work hard by offering them opportunities instead of barriers,” said Congressman Cuellar. House Democratic conferees are currently working hard to reach a bipartisan deal on the payroll tax cut, unemployment benefits and the Medicare doctors’ fee fix that will extend these initiatives for the remainder of the year. Congressman Cuellar encouraged the conferees to move forward on efforts to secure these extensions that if secured, will boost job creation and grow the economy. |
