Congressman Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28) announced $2,233,045 in federal funding for Duval County School districts. Dr. Cuellar announced $2.2 million in federal reimbursements for free or reduced meals for Duval school district students for the 2023 to 2024 school year. The federal funding comes from USDA’s National School Breakfast Program (SBP) and National School Lunch Program (NSLP). “In 2020, 15 million students participated in the School Breakfast Program, with over 91,000 schools. These programs allow our children to receive quality, nutritious meals throughout the school year, giving children time to focus on their education without worrying about food. Because of this, parents can save money for other necessities that will boost our local and national economy,” said Dr. Cuellar. “These programs are critical to the students and families in TX-28. That’s why I will continue my work in Congress to fund, support, and expand these programs to address our nation’s food insecurity issue. Thank you to educators across Duval County for their commitment to our students.” The School Breakfast Program (SBP) and the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) are federally assisted meal programs operating in public and non-profit private schools. Dr. Cuellar delivered a total of $1,362,233 for San Diego ISD, $683,218 for Freer ISD, $163,682 FOR Benavidez ISD, and $23,910 for Ramirez CSD through federal funding for SBP and NSLP.
