Rep. Cuellar Announces Over $9.2 Million in Funding for Transportation Projects in McMullen County

Tilden, Texas — Today, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced $9,245,266 million in funding for transportation projects in McMullen County. The funds are authorized through the Texas Department of Transportation’s 2023 Unified Transportation Program (UTP), which is the state’s 10-year plan to guide the development of transportation work across the state. Additionally, the San Antonio transportation district, which includes McMullen County, will be letting $319,872,457 in construction funding in fiscal year 2023.

“I was proud to have helped pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law which is helping create millions of jobs across the country and helping repair and modernize our transportation systems,” said Congressman Cuellar, a senior member on the House Appropriations Committee. “This historic funding for transportation projects will help us make our roads and highways in McMullen County more efficient and safer for drivers in the community. By investing in our county’s infrastructure, we can ensure public safety and that our communities will continue to grow and prosper. I want to thank Judge James E. Teal and the rest of the public officials in McMullen County for working with me to meet the infrastructural needs of the community.”

“McMullen County is pleased to receive news that we will participate in TXDOT funding from the bipartisan infrastructure bill passed, and look forward to continued roadway improvements in our County.  The more than $9.2MM is a $3MM increase to previous years funding for our State Highway System," said McMullen County Judge James Tilden.

The $9.245 million in funding is a $2.7 million increase over the amount for McMullen County included in the 2022 plan. This increase is largely due to the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which passed last year. To date, Texas has been awarded $8 billion in transportation funding for 260 projects through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
