Pleasanton, TX— Today, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced a $2,975,000 federal earmark he secured for the construction of a new Pleasanton Police Department and Municipal Court. This project will strengthen public safety and judicial efficiency for the City of Pleasanton and its population of 10,703 residents by modernizing the city’s public safety and municipal court facilities.
Currently, the Pleasanton Pollice Department and the Pleasanton Municipal court are located in separate, distant, buildings. Bringing the two departments under the same roof will improve judicial efficiency and, over time, reduce operational costs. “I am proud to contribute with this $2.9 million earmark to this multi-million dollar project that will help guarantee the safety of the community of Pleasanton,” said Congressman Cuellar, a senior member on the House Appropriations Committee. “I am a strong supporter of law enforcement and border security and I will keep working in Washington to provide the men and women in blue with the resources they require to perform their service in the most efficient and safe manner. I thank our Pleasanton Police and the rest of our law enforcement in Atascosa County for everything they do to keep our streets safe. I also want to thank Mayor, Clinton Powell, for his leadership to meet the needs of his city.” “I am grateful to Congressman Henry Cuellar for his support of the Pleasanton Justice Center,” said Pleasanton Mayor Clinton Powell. “The Justice Center will be a modern facility that will house the Pleasanton Police Headquarters and the Pleasanton Municipal Court. Congressman Cuellar recognizes the city’s priority for increased resources for public safety for our residents and our growing community and we appreciate his leadership.” In 2021, the Pleasanton Police Department received a total of 24,744 call for service and the Pleasanton Municipal Court had 1,937 cases. This new facility will enhance overall efficiency for both departments while reducing operational costs. The new 20,000 square-foot police department and municipal court will house 30 certified peace officers, 8 civilian personnel, 1 full-time municipal court judge, and 2 court clerks. Housing both departments in the same building will improve judicial efficiency and public safety, allowing the City of Pleasanton to better serve and protect its community. The total cost of the project is $8.5 million with a match of $5,525,000 from the City of Pleasanton. ### |
