San Antonio, TX- Today, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) attended a ribbon cutting event for Randolph Field ISD Elementary School. Randolph Field ISD servers approximately 1,500 students, almost all of whom are children of residents of Join Base San Antonio- Randolph. The school district has served children of former and active Air Force personnel for almost 90 years.

“I have continuously voiced my support for our military service members and their families. It is my pleasure to be able to impact their children’s education at Randolph Field ISD. Throughout my tenure as Congressman, I have secured $25,885,000 in total federal funding through Defense Appropriations for the construction of Randolph Field ISD’s new high school, cafetorium, middle school, and elementary school. I have also secured over $81 million in Federal Impact Aid to ensure the school district’s students are getting the resources they require and deserve,” said Congressman Cuellar. “This more than $12.5 million project of a new elementary school will benefit kids in pre-kindergarten through the fifth grade. It is important that while our service members serve our country, they can be assured that their children are receiving quality education. Investing in our children’s education will always be a wise investment. Thank you, Dr. Brian Holt, Superintendent of Randolph Field ISD for making this happen.”

Randolph Elementary School was the first school to be established on a military reservation in 1932. The base chaplain, Chaplain Mc Murray, with the help of the Commanding Officer, Colonel Brooks, led a group of people to Austin and met with the governor to get permission to start the base school. Shortly after they met, a special Act of the Legislature created an Independent School District within the bounds of the base. That meant that the students at the Post school would have an accredited school to attend and could participate in the State per-capita funds.

Congressman Cuellar secured $12,538,680 in Defense Appropriations for the new elementary school, along with $8,431,102 in Federal Impact Aid in 2020 alone.
