KGNS VIDEO: New hike and bike trail opens in South Laredo

New hike and bike trail opens in South Laredo (video link below)

The second phase in a project that will provide a scenic connection between the Haynes Recreation Center and Highway 359 is unveiled on Thursday.

A Ribbon cutting took place at the Chacon Creek Hike and Bike Trail.

We spoke with Representative Henry Cuellar about the project and he says he would like it to ultimately run from the Rio Grande, all the way through to the Texas A & M International University campus.

He envisions it as a safe way for people to walk, run, and ride their bikes through Laredo without concerns of safety or traffic.

He also spoke about how it can be an asset for the city in other ways.

"So, I'm excited because when we talk about infrastructure, not only the highways, it's not only the ports of entry that are important to us. These types of trails, running, bicycling trails, will be important for the quality of life in Laredo", said Henry Cuellar.

The congressman tells us this has been a project in conjunction with the city of Laredo and the Texas Department of Transportation.
