Poth FCCLA members Clayton Jaskinia and Daniel Soto and their advisor, Gina Falcon, traveled to Washington, D.C., July 3-10 for the FCCLA National Leadership Conference. Clayton and Daniel were two of 630 Texas FCCLA delegates at the national conference.
They were able to participate in many tours of the national monuments, including Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon, the White House, and the U.S. Capitol. The pair also met with U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar.
Special activities included Daniel as part of the Texas Executive Council participating in the placement of a wreath with the exchange of the guards in Arlington National Cemetery. Daniel is currently serving as the Texas State FCCLA parliamentarian.
On July 6, Clayton competed in the STAR Event: Chapter In-Review Portfolio, Senior Division, where he received a gold medal with a score of 94 out of 100 possible points. Clayton is currently attending Palo Alto College working toward a degree in education.
Clayton and Daniel would like to thank the Poth Independent School District (ISD) school board, Superintendent Scott Caloss, High School Principal Todd Pawelek, FCCLA Advisor Gina Falcon, and the Roger Winkler Memorial Foundation for the $500 donation to help cover extra travel costs.
Last but not least, we would like to thank our families for making the trip with us and for all their support.
