KRGV: Black Hawk Helicopters coming to South Texas

Last Friday someone shot at a CBP helicopter in Laredo. The aircraft made an emergency landing.

Originally, it was reported the shots were fired from the Mexican side of the border. It is unclear which side they were fired from.

The aircraft was damaged and no one was hurt. CBP is improving border security after the shooting.

Officials say they plan to send two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters to south Texas. The helicopters can handle small arms fire. They carry a larger crew than the helicopter currently used in the area, and are well-suited for operating in a higher threat environment.

The move is expected to occur this week. CHANNEL 5 NEWS is working to find out where in south Texas those choppers will be stationed.
