KGNS: C.B.P. request two Blackhawk helicopters

Just days after a Customs and Border Protectionhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png helicopter took fire along the border in Laredo, two Blackhawk helicopters are being deployed to South Texas.

The two aircraft will be used by C.B.P. agentshttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png and will offer them better protection as they patrol the U.S. Mexico border.

Last Friday law enforcementhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png agencies responded to the scene where the helicopter landed, after being hit by gunfire.

It was a close call for the pilothttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png, who could have been hit if it weren't for a bullet proof vest on the floor of the chopper.

Congressman Henry Cuellar says the Blackhawks will provide betterhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png protection for agents.

"These are not the same Blackhawks these Blackhawks are going to have protection, armor, I don't want our men and women of C.B.P. to be at any riskhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png", said Congressman Henry Cuellar.

The Blackhawks are expected to arrive in Laredo by Friday.

They will patrol the border from Laredo down to the Rio Grande Valley.

The congressman says the length of stay will depend onhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png the threat level faced by agents.
