Rep. Henry Cuellar announced that Sharyland Independent School District will receive almost $1.2 million in federal funding over the next three years from a Department of Education elementary and secondary school counseling grant.
“Sharyland ISD does a great job of serving local students and this investment in our students in primary and secondary education will only build upon the great work they are already doing,” Cuellar said.
“The Sharyland school district is honored to have received the Department of Education’s three-year Project STart Grant,” said Dr. Filomena Leo, interim superintendent of schools. Project STart will serve more than 5,378 kindergarten through sixth-grade students annually in eight high-need elementary schools and will aim to meet three main objectives which include goals of improving academic performance, improving attitude and character, and creating a support system of parents, community leaders and educators for students.
