Fox 2 Rio: Officials Discuss Humanitarian Crisis

Congressman Henry Cuellar and the foreign minister of Honduras give us an update on the immigration crisis.

It’s no secret that for the last months the valley has been a key entry for illegal immigration and according to border patrol over 70,000 children have crossed the border illegally this fiscal year.

Today, congressman Henry Cuellar and the foreign minister of Honduras, Mireya Aguera De Corrales, gave us an update on what is happening with this crisis.

“Migrant children are not coming back by themselves that the case we are talking right now is the process of family units,” explains Mireya Aguera De Corrales, foreign minister of Honduras.

The foreign minister explained how local officials are helping the kids that arrive to south Texas. She also mentioned a promising program Honduran president launched called “Con Chambas Vives Mejor” or with work you will live better.

This fiscal year alone 17 thousand 580 Honduran children have crossed the border alone according to border patrol.

“We have the highs and lows when you have this type of . Certainly there are certain factors that ICE and other agencies have seen focusing on this smuggling organizations and have seen disrupting those,” says Henry Cuellar,

Right now congress has not met on this situation and is still deliberating this situation. It is no clear how they’re going to solve this crisis.
