Congressional Report

Dear Friends,

It's no secret that our lives and daily routines have been greatly impacted by the coronavirus. As a community it is critical that we continue to care for one another. As your Congressman, I will continue doing my best in keeping you informed about available local, state, and federal resources.

My staff and I are working hard to address your questions, as well as connect you with any federal agencies you many need assistance with.

This past week, we had three teletown halls, congressional briefings, and numerous video/phone calls between myself, elected officials, and federal agencies.

I am committed to keeping each and every one of you informed throughout this pandemic and will continue working to ensure that our district receives the necessary resources needed to combat this virus. I urge you to visit my website and social media pages, @repcuellar, to stay informed with the latest news.

Times may be tough at the moment, but we will overcome this pandemic - and we'll do so together. Stay strong. Stay safe.

Rep. Cuellar's Teletown Halls for Farmers and Ranchers

This past week, I hosted three teletown halls with officials from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Small Business Administration, and Farm Service Agency to discuss available resources for small businesses, ranchers, and farmers in our rural communities. As a senior Appropriator, I will continue to fight for immediate assistance and the necessary support for rural counties throughout my district. You can watch these live streams on any of my social media platforms, @repcuellar. Pictured is Rep. Cuellar.

To Teachers Everywhere, Thank You

Teacher appreciation week was May 4 - May 8, and this year I wanted to especially show my gratitude for our educators. These challenging times have reminded us of the incredible value of our nation's teachers. As way to say thank you for their work in empowering and inspiring our students, I treated all Dr. Henry Cuellar Elementary teachers and staff to Taco Palenque. Pictured is Rep. Cuellar and Dr. Henry Cuellar Elementary teacher, Becky Briones.

Don't miss out on the 'Congressional Art Competition'

Are you a high school student? Do you have an artistic side? Show us your talent in this year's 'Congressional Art Competition'. The deadline for this year's competition is May 15, at 5:00 P.M. CST. Due to COVID-19, our rules and guidelines on submissions have changed; for more information, check out my website. Should you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call my office at (956) 424-3942.

Mental Health Month

May is Mental Health month and even though one in five individuals will experience a mental illness during their lifetime, we all face challenges at one point or another that impacts our state of mind. With the current stay-at-home orders and health guidelines, this adjustment has not been easy for everyone. Mental Health America has put together a 'Mental Health Tool Kit' that will help you thrive during social distancing and COVID-19. For access to the tool kit, click here.

Texas Health Trace

The Texas Department of State Health Services has created an online app, Texas Health Trace, which helps track and stop the spread of COVID-19 within our state. Based off your answers to a few questions, their self-checker will analyze your risk to COVID-19, allow you to report recent exposure, as well as provide a list of available testing sites. All of your information will stay confidential and the only requirement is that you have a valid email. To utilize Texas Health Trace, click here.

Coronavirus Resource Handbook

My office's COVID-19 Resource Handbook provides an extremely helpful list of tools and services for all those in the district. We are constantly updating the information in our handbook and you can regularly check my website for the newest edition. This wide-ranging economic rescue package provides rapid and meaningful assistance for individuals, businesses, and first responders.

Sections include: unemployment, direct payments, food assistance, homeowners and protection programs, and more. If you have any questions about the topics listed on the handbook, please contact my offices for assistance. To view the English handbook, click here. To view the Spanish handbook, click here.

Don't Forget About the 2020 Census!

As of May 8, our district currently has a response rate of 42.7%. Although we are slowly improving our district rates, we're still trailing behind the state's average rate. Let's improve these numbers and make sure every, man, woman, and child living in TX-28 is properly accounted for. You can complete the census form online, by clicking here. If you want to complete it by phone, call: 1-844-330-2020. Or, you can respond through mail, once you receive the paper form.
