Today, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28) announced over $1.2 billion in federal funding for South Texas on the two-year anniversary of President Biden signing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This landmark law has provided critical funding for South Texas roads, broadband, water systems, airports, and legacy pollution cleanup. These projects are improving quality of life and creating good-paying jobs.

“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has had a major impact on the 28^th Congressional District of Texas. The federal funds I helped secure ensures South Texans have the necessary infrastructure to get to and from home, work, and school safely, and primes our communities for economic development and growth,” said Dr. Cuellar, a Senior Member of the House Appropriations Committee. “I helped pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in 2021 to revamp our infrastructure, and we will continue to see the results of this law for years to come. In Congress, I will continue to fight to improve our infrastructure.”

Key projects in TX-28 include:

• $10.4 million to improve FM 2924 in Atascosa County
• $3 million for improving IH 35 in Atascosa County
• $304,000 for Pleasanton Municipal Airport
• $100,000 for Universal City to install water meters for more accurate real-time water usage data collection
• $3.2 million to VIA Metropolitan Transit for purchasing 15 new vehicles
• $126,000 for a new bridge on South Tovar Street at San Diego Creek in Duval County
• $173 million to widen IH-10 in Guadalupe County
• $223,000 for Jim Hogg County Airport
• $10 million for improving SH 16 in McMullen County
• $3 million for improving SL 195 in Starr County
• $63.5 million for interchange improvements on US 59 in Webb County
• $7.4 million for 14 new El Metro buses in Laredo
• $29.8 million for widening US 83 in Zapata County

Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding has also been used to plug 27 orphan wells and has saved 71,000 households roughly $25.6 million on broadband costs in TX-28.

So far, $28 billion in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding has been announced for over 699 specific projects in Texas. Announced funding includes:

• $16.6 billion for Texas roads, bridges, roadway safety, and major projects
• $3.3 billion from the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program (BEAD) to provide high-speed internet access to everyone in Texas
• $58.4 million to improve middle-mile broadband infrastructure in the state
• $1 billion for improving water infrastructure
• $234.1 million for building out a network of electric vehicle chargers across the state
• $173.2 million for weatherization programs
• $669.6 million for Texas airports
• $105.7 million for capping orphaned oil and gas wells and reclaiming abandoned mine lands
