Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) released the following statement after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a proposed rule to reduce ethylene oxide emissions: “The EPA previously acknowledged that certain communities within Laredo are at an elevated risk of cancer due to exposure to ethylene oxide emissions. My priority has always been the health and safety of Laredoans. I have worked closely with the EPA and spoken with Joseph Goffman, EPA Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation, to identify a solution to this issue,” said Congressman Cuellar. “I also appreciate local advocates and community leaders for their important work on this matter. I look forward to finding a balanced measure that reduces Laredo’s cancer risk while safeguarding access to critical sterilized medical equipment.” ### |
