Hebbronville, TX –Today,  U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced $1,285,000 in federal funding for Jim Hogg County to repair and enhance Kohler Park. The funding will make the park inclusive by improving accessibility and replacing dilapidated facilities. Enhancing the park will improve public health by encouraging physical activity and providing a safe space to host community events.

The project will create accessible sidewalks and make improvements to the park’s sporting fields and playground equipment. Other measures include shade covering for the basketball court and bleacher seating, constructing a kiosk for events, and converting the skateboard area from composite board to cement.

“Encouraging physical activity is critical to improving public health by reducing rates of obesity and related conditions caused by physical inactivity,” said Congressman Cuellar. By investing in Kohler Park, we will revitalize one of the only areas for recreational activity in Hebbronville. The park improvements will include accessibility upgrades so all residents can enjoy the park facilities and will create a safe greenspace for physical activity, leading to improved public health and overall quality of life for the residents of Jim Hogg County. I want to thank Jim Hogg County Judge, Juan Carlos Guerra, and the rest of the county for their collaboration on this community project and for their commitment to the citizens of Jim Hogg County.”

“The funds will be used to make much needed improvements to our Kohler Park in Jim Hogg County. It has been many years since any major improvements have been made to our park. The finished product will provide improved recreational activities for our youth and will certainly improve the quality of life for individuals of all ages,” said Jim Hogg County Judge Juan Carlos Guerra. “Thank you, Congressman Cuellar!”

This project will make modernized recreational equipment available to the county, which is critical to ensuring equitable access to sporting equipment and outdoor facilities for the county’s 4,800 residents.
