WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced that beginning on Wednesday, January 19th, the Federal Government will launch a website, covidtests.gov, that will provide free at-home COVID-19 tests to American families. “The surge in omicron cases across the country has led to a shortage of at-home tests, saturated testing sites, and hospitals nearing full capacity. It is paramount that we continue to provide testing so that people are able to isolate themselves from others and prevent the rapid spread of the omicron variant,” said Congressman Cuellar. “This is an important measure that will help counter the shortage of tests and at the same time provide a safer, more comfortable option for families to get tested for COVID-19. We will keep working in a coordinated manner to continue to provide tests, vaccines, and other resources to our families in South Texas.” The site, covidtests.gov, will officially launch this Wednesday, January 19th. However, the site went live in a “beta phase” on Tuesday morning—allowing individuals to start ordering their at-home tests. Each household is eligible to receive 4 free at-home tests by completing an order form on the United States Postal Service website with the individual’s name and address. The link to the form is provided on the covidtests website. The tests will begin shipping in late January and will be delivered by the U.S. Postal Service through First-Class Mail package service.
