Rep. Cuellar’s Statement on President’s Call to George Secretary of State

Washington | Charlotte Laracy, DC Press Secretary (202-226-1583); Alexis Torres, District Press Secretary (956-286-6007), January 4, 2021

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) released the following statement regarding President Donald Trump’s call with Georgia Secretary of State, Mr. Brad Raffensperger, urging the Secretary to “find” enough votes to overturn his electoral defeat:

“If any candidate called my office when I was the Texas Secretary of State and asked me to find 11,780 votes for them, I would say that is illegal. Any pressure to change election results is a threat to our democracy.

“This troubling call does not change the results of the 2020 presidential election. On January 20th, Joe Biden will be President of the United States. In a Biden administration, we will restore our trust within our democratic system.

“I applaud Secretary of State Raffensperger, for his commitment to upholding our country’s election integrity, adhering to the will of the American voters, and following the rule of law.”
