Rep. Cuellar Delivers Over $2.2 Million to Floresville

Funds will go towards Atascosa Health Center, the Police Department, the City of Floresville

Floresville, TX—Congressman Henry Cuellar worked hard to deliver $2,238,100 in federal grants and loans to Floresville. Specifically, Congressman Cuellar announced a $2 million federal loan for Atascosa Health Center’s new medical clinic in Floresville. The Congressman also announced $110,800 in federal funds to the Floresville Police Department for 3 new police vehicles and 17 new computer tablets as well as $127,300 in federal funds to the City of Floresville for six new utility trucks.

Atascosa Health Center

Atascosa Health Center received a $2,000,000 through the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Community Facilities loan. The health center will use the funds to construct a medical, behavioral health, and dental clinic in Floresville to serve Wilson County.  This project is in partnership with the Floresville Economic Development Corporation for the land donation. The facility will be located adjacent to the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville. The new clinic will increase their primary health care, address identifiable health disparities, and improve the health and well-being of individuals, families, and the community. The services also include pharmacy care, family planning and obstetrics, immunizations, nutrition, chronic disease self-management patient education, and community health promotion and educational classes.

Floresville’s Police Department 

Through the USDA Rural Development’s investment funds, Floresville’s Police Department received $69,000 in FY19 federal funds to purchase 3 new police vehicles. The new vehicles will be fully equipped with updated equipment and accessories. The Police Department was also awarded $41,800 in federal funds to purchase 17 computer tablets in their vehicles. The vehicles and tablets will assist the officers in providing law enforcement services to the residents of the City of Floresville.

The City will be providing $34,275 to this project, totaling $76,075.

City of Floresville 

The City of Floresville, through the USDA Rural Development’s investment funds, was awarded $127,300 to replace 6 utility trucks for the City due to high mileage and excessive repairs on the current vehicles. The trucks will enable the maintenance and operators of the Public Works Department to better serve the residents of Floresville.

The City will be providing $104,293 for this project, totaling $231,593.

USDA Rural Development offers loans, grants and loan guarantees to help create jobs and support economic development and essential services such as housing; health care; first responder services and equipment; and water, electric and communications infrastructure.
