LAREDO MORNING TIMES: LPD receives $59K in federal funding

Laredo Morning Times, September 26, 2020

Congressman Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, announced this week $59,004 in federal funding for the Laredo Police Department.

Cuellar said that these funds, which are allocated through the Department of Justice’s Byrne Justice Assistance Grants, will be used to ensure law enforcement has the tools, programs, personnel and resources necessary to protect and serve the region.

“When it comes to the safety of our community, we must be smart and prepared,” he said. “This federal investment will help ensure that our local law enforcement is able to continue protecting our families, friends and neighbors.”

Cuellar added, “As a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to ensure our law enforcement officers have the necessary funding so they can do their jobs safely and effectively. I want to thank Mayor Pete Saenz, City Manager Robert Eads, City Council, Chief of Police Claudio Treviño and the rest of their staff for their tireless work in protecting our residents.”

“The Laredo Police Department would like to thank Congressman Cuellar and his staff for their assistance in securing these funds. The funds will be utilized for a network administrator position to bolster the management information system section of the department that provides digital security for our LPD software and networks,” Treviño said in a statement.
