Washington | Charlotte Laracy, DC Press Secretary (202-226-1583); Alexis Torres, District Press Secretary (956-286-6007), September 15, 2020

Washington, D.C.— Congressman Henry Cuellar released the following statement regarding the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month:

“Each year from September 15th to October 15th, we come together as a nation to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and honor the history, culture, and contributions of the Hispanic community. From advancing the arts and sciences, to serving in our Armed Forces, Hispanic Americans have countless accomplishments to celebrate.

“This Hispanic Heritage Month however is different. Our community is being faced with the disproportionate impact of the pandemic as well as its severe economic repercussions.

“Yet despite these challenges, Hispanic Americans continue to push forward and contribute enormously to our country, including the many essential workers keeping America running during this crisis.

“And we must recommit ourselves to fixing America’s broken immigration system. I voted and co-sponsored the American Dream and Promise Act to protect our young Dreamers and TPS recipients.

“This Hispanic Heritage Month, let us honor the hard work that generation of Hispanic Immigrants and Americans have achieved. In return, I am committed to ensuring that Hispanic communities, especially essential workers, have the resources they need through difficult times.

“Above all, I know that our community is resilient and have been for generations. Please know that I will be by your side to fight for you.”
