Rep. Cuellar’s Statement on HHS Deployment of Medical Professionals to Laredo

 Laredo, TX – Congressman Henry Cuellar released the following statement regarding FEMA and the Department of Health and Human Services deployment of the Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) and the Public Health Service Nurse Strike Team to Laredo, TX.

“I would like to thank FEMA and the Department of Health and Human Services for sending these resources to Laredo. Our hospitals are overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients and the additional personnel will help save lives, increase response times, and ensure that our local health care providers and first responders can continue providing the best possible care.”

DMAT consist of the following additional personnel (30 persons):

  • 23 providers and 7 support staff (physicians, nurses, and EMTs providing patient care)
    • 6 at Doctors Hospital Laredo
    • 24 at Laredo Medical Center

The Public Health Service Nurse Strike Team consists of the following personnel (10 persons)

  • Public Health Service Nurse Strike Team (10 persons)
    • All deployed to Doctors Hospital Laredo
    • 9 nurses, 1 support staff

In addition, the Department of Defense is deploying military medical professional to support the efforts of FEMA and HHS.
