SAN ANTONIO - Congressmen Henry Cuellar announced Tuesday more than $3 million in federal funds will be issued to Housing Authorities in Bexar County and the City of San Antonio, which will help support low-income residents. According to a press release, the City of San Antonio will receive $3,858,081 and Bexar County will receive $16,235, bringing the total to $3,874,316. “It is critical that we ensure the safety of Americans living in public housing during this public health crisis," Congressman Cuellar said. “This critical federal investment will provide the San Antonio & Bexar County Housing Authorities with the necessary resources to protect their residents and staff. As a senior Appropriator, I will continue funding programs that combat homelessness and guarantee housing providers keep their properties safe and well-maintained during these unprecedented times. I want to thank Mayor Ron Nirenberg, County Judge Nelson Wolff, City Manager Erik Walsh, County Commissioners, City Council members, and the rest of the City and County staff for their dedication to supporting vulnerable populations in our community.” These funds were granted by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act and will be used to prepare, prevent and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
