Rep. Cuellar’s Statement on the Interim Emergency Package

Laredo, TX- Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) released the following statement regarding the introduction of the interim emergency funding package.

 

“It is critical we continue to act swiftly as our country is facing this health and economic crisis,” said Congressman Cuellar.  “During this time of stress and uncertainty, every American needs to know that their government is there to support them without hesitation. This new stimulus package prioritizes relief for small businesses, including additional funding for the Paycheck Protection Program, which will help businesses stay afloat and prepare to reopen. This legislation will also provide funding to our hospitals who are on the front lines of this crisis.”

 

“I will vote for this legislation on behalf of the American people to ensure our hospitals in both rural and urbans areas as well as our small businesses have the resources they need today and throughout this unprecedented crisis. But make no mistake, there is much more to be done. As a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, I am committed to protecting the safety and well-being of Americans as well as restoring opportunity and prosperity to our economy.”

 

The fourth stimulus package includes

  • $310 billion in emergency aid to the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program, designed to help small businesses keep employees on their payrolls as much of the country remains under stay-at-home orders.
  • $60 billion for a separate Economic Injury Disaster Loan program that provides financing and advances as grants of as much as $10,000 for businesses.
  • $75 billion for hospitals, with a significant portion aimed at rural hospitals.
  • $25 billion for national coronavirus testing.
