Valley Congressmen urge FEMA to aide with hospital equipment shortagesby: Daniel Esteve Posted: / Updated:Several South Texas Congressmen have called the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide testing kits, reagents and protective equipment to Texas hospitals in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a release, Congressmen Filemon Vela, Vicente Gonzalez and Henry Cuellar sent a letter detailing the hospital equipment shortages across the state. In the letter, Rep. Vela shared his thoughts on the difficulties associated with working without the adequate number of necessary equipment. “This global pandemic has created an unprecedented demand on necessary resources to fight the virus, including diagnostic testing tools and the reagents needed for those samples,” Vela said. “Moreover, while our Texas health care workforce do all they can to treat impacted patients and save lives, they, too, are now facing shortages of the equipment needed to protect them.” The congressmen’s letter details the over 300 confirmed cases across the state of Texas, including the over 31,000 confirmed cases across the country. The letter was sent Sunday, March 22, and no response has been notified to CBS 4. Read the complete letter here. |
