WASHINGTON– Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced $1,155,956 for the San Antonio area through the Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration. Federal funds provided through the Health Center Program and the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program will assist the San Antonio area in reducing the number of new HIV diagnoses while increasing access to care, medication, and prevention services. As a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, Congressman Cuellar helped secure $70,000,000 for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program and $50,000,000 for the Health Center Program in final spending bill. “HIV/AIDS continues to have a devastating impact on populations across the United States, including South Texas,” said Congressman Cuellar. “This federal investment will be used to support and treat individuals living with HIV/AIDS and help improve their quality of life. As a senior member on the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fund programs that provide services that support people living with HIV/AIDS and encourage their engagement in treatment and care.” Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program San Antonio, TX will receive $850,000 through the Ryan White HIV/AIDs program. Health Center Program El Centro del Barrio in San Antonio, TX will receive $305,965 through the Health Center Program. These funds will assist El Centro del Barrio to provide primary care, medication, and prevention services to HIV positive patients. These grant programs are a part of the Administration's Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America (EHE) initiative, which aims to reduce the number of new HIV infections in the United States by 90 percent by 2030.
