WOAI: Congress approves more than $30 million for several Bexar County school districts

WASHINGTON — Congressman Henry Cuellar announced Tuesday that $30,605,083 in federal funds have been secured from the Department of Education for several schools in Bexar County.

East Central, Randolph, Judson and North East Independent School Districts will all receive a portion of the money that was authorized under Title I Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.

These funds will help ensure that children from these districts, which have a high number of low income families, will be able to meet state academic standards.

As someone who has experienced the transformative power of education, I am pleased to have secured this grant for our local school districts,” Congressman Cuellar said, “We must invest in the educational needs and the interest of Texas students because they are our most important asset for the country’s future. I will continue to support our school systems by providing them the necessary resources so they can provide high quality education in our Texas classrooms.

Here is a breakdown of the dollar amounts earmarked for each district:

  • East Central Independent School District, $2,629,868
  • Randolph Independent School District, $44,259
  • Judson Independent School District, $7,541,077
  • North East Independent School District, $20,389,879

This much-needed increase in funds available will help support schools, teachers and administrators to provide the best education possible for children in Bexar County schools.
