San Antonio, TX—Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced $765,416 in federal funds for police body-worn cameras throughout Bexar County. These federal funds will be used to create the first widely distributed camera system in Bexar county.

The county will match the federal grant, allocating an additional $767,023 to the program, which will provide $1,532,439 in total. These funds will be used to purchase 400 body-worn cameras as well as support licensing, docking, and training of the body-worn cameras. Training with the body-worn cameras will start on October 1st.

“It’s critical our police officers have the necessary resources to protect lives and improve police-community relations in our community,” said Congressman Cuellar. “These funds will allow the county to purchase additional body-worn cameras in order to enhance transparency, promote accountability and advance public safety for law enforcement officers and our city.”

“As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fund programs that support our law enforcement and protect our community. I would like to thank Sheriff Javier Salazar, County Judge Nelson W. Wolff and the County Commissioners for their commitment to improving officer and community safety as well as increasing mutual trust. I would also like to thank the San Antonio Congressional Delegation for making this issue a top priority.”
