WASHINGTON– Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) released the following statement on the passing of Representative John D. Dingell Jr. of Michigan, the longest serving Member of Congress:

“Chairman John Dingell was a war hero, a public servant, and a loving husband and father. Through his 59 years of service, the American people witnessed his unyielding commitment and dedication to the betterment of our country.”

“I saw firsthand his devotion to the people of Southeast Michigan, as well as the respect that he had earned over decades of public service from his colleagues on both sides of the aisle."

“I am proud to have known him and to have served with him. As elected officials, the best we can hope for is to do enough good while in office so that we're able to help those in need and give a voice to those who lack one. Congressman Dingell accomplished that and so much more."

“As we mourn his passing, I extend my condolences to his beloved wife, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, and the entire Dingell family.”
