WASHINGTON— Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28), a member of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee and Subcommittees of Homeland Security and Defense, released the following statement on withholding his pay during the government shutdown:
“I chose to withhold my pay because I stand with the 800,000 federal employees across the country who missed their first paychecks due to President Trump’s blatant refusal to reopen the federal government. It’s simple: If they’re not going to get paid, I’m not going to get paid until the government shutdown is over. I urge the President to put aside his insistence on the wall, focus on reopening the government, and provide the American people with the paychecks, benefits, and services they rely on.”
