Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced $84,000 in federal funding for Webb County to purchase a new public shuttle bus from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). This new addition to the County’s bus fleet will improve transit operations in rural areas, increasing public transportation for disabled and elderly individuals in Webb County. Funds for this grant program were provided through the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

Increasing access to unrestricted public transportation for commuters in the 28^th District of Texas is a top priority for Congressman Cuellar. Presently, there are six bus routes which cover most of the rural areas of Webb County. The new shuttle bus will increase public transit access for rural residents who lack sufficient transportation options, including low-income and senior citizens.

“Residents in Webb County and in rural areas across the country deserve the same access to public transportation afforded to urban areas,” said Congressman Cuellar. “This new shuttle bus will provide an additional mode of transportation, making bus travel in Laredo safer and more accessible for citizens and visitors alike. I would like to recognize the Federal Transit Administration, the Texas Department of Transportation, and Webb County for focusing on the needs of this community. I additionally thank Webb County Judge Tijerina and County Commissioners for their efforts in securing this much needed resource.”
