KTSA: Cuellar to GOP: Vote on Speaker–Get Back to Work

October 29th…that’s when House members will vote for a new Speaker to replace John Boehner.

That’s still a little more than three weeks away.

“I would’ve preferred that we get this election out of the way this week,” Congressman Henry Cuellar said.

The Democrat says he’d rather start concentrating on bigger issues on the horizon for the House.

“They later we get without knowing who the leader is, who the Speaker is going to be, it’s just going to make it harder for all of us,” Cuellar said. “And we’re going to have more of crunch time at the end.”

Cuellar just hopes whichever Republican candidate is selected as the next Speaker of the House is someone who is willing to work with the Democrats in a bipartisan way.

Republican Congressman Blake Farenthold is still deciding who he’ll vote for. Republican Congressman Kevin Brady has previously tabbed House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy as his pick.
