WEBB, COUNTY (KGNS) - Congressman Henry Cuellar, the Cityhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png of Encinal, and local leaders hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, officially opening the new $1.5 million Encinal City Hall.

The new city hall is now located at 701 Berry Street in Encinal, Texas. Love’s Travelhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png Lodge also donated six lots, valued at $100,000, for the new city hall site.

Encinal outgrew its old city hall and the city’s growth doesn't see any sign of slowing down. The city’s sales tax has grown 25 percent each year for the last three years.

The 6,200 square foothttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png state-of-the-art facility will host public forums and meetings and is more than three times larger than the previous city hall.

“The City of Encinal is growing and my officehttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png was able to work with the City of Encinal and USDA Rural Development to help get the funds necessary to build this new facility,” said Congressman Cuellar. “Encinal is now better equipped to provide its city staff, and citizens, with the resources and technology needed to keep up with growth and progress.”

“This new city hall will be a symbol of pride and accomplishment for all the citizens of Encinal. I would like to thank Rep. Henry Cuellar's Office and USDA Rural Development for their guidance in helping us accomplish what we feel will be the center point of commerce and economic growth for the City,” said Velma Davila, Encinal City Managerhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png.

“USDA Rural Development Community Facilitieshttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png Programs help communities keep pace with the needs of their rising populations,” said Rural Development State Director Paco Valentin. “We are pleased to be a part of this ceremony today for the new Encinal City Hall that includes office space for city council, city staff, police, municipal, permitting and support facilities.

The new facility will house the city council chamber, office space for city and municipal staff, the Encinal Police Department, the justice of the peace, the Encinal Economic Development Corporation and the local foodhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png bank.
