Congressman Cuellar to start professionalism campaignPosted: Mon 4:29 PM, Oct 13, 2014 By Justin J. Reyes LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - Congressman Cuellar is working with port directors, not only in Laredo, but across South Texas to start a professionalism campaign. Congressman Cuellar says he's gotten too many complaints of everyday people being treated like criminals. The professionalism campaign would teach agents better customer service to those who do not pose a threat. In addition, Cuellar says he wants all agents to start wearing body cameras. A few law enforcement agencies around the country have already started wearing them. Congressmen Cuellar says," That would be good for the officer and for the person coming in. The officer, if there's a complaint, he has proof that he didn't do something wrong, or she. Or if there's a complaint against that person, that will provide it." Laredo will be a pilot program for customs agents to wear body cameras. There is no time frame on when the agents will start wearing body cameras. The main office in Washington is reviewing the body camera program before they start it. |
