Cuellar hosts roundtable on trade agenda

Oct 3, 2014, 12:47pm CDT UPDATED: Oct 3, 2014, 1:01pm CDT

The U.S. trade agenda will be the focus of a business roundtable discussion on Monday, Oct. 6, hosted by U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, and U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman.

The event will take place at the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce office at 602 E. Commerce St. beginning at 9:30 a.m.

A group of business leaders, trade associations and policymakers from San Antonio will be on hand to discuss U.S. trade policies.

A recent study by Matt Slaughter of the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College concluded that a pro-trade agenda focused on trade agreements, investments, immigration and taxation would produce 10 million new jobs over the next 10 years.

U.S. exports have more than doubled during the past 10 years from $1.04 trillion in 2003 to $2.26 trillion in 2013, and the number of U.S. exporters has steadily risen in recent years, the study states.

Mike W. Thomas covers technology/telecom, military, finance, regulatory issues as well as nonprofits/education.
