New president takes helm at Harlingen Chamber of CommerceHARLINGEN — Christopher Gonzales is the new president and chief executive officer of the Harlingen Area Chamber of Commerce, following a unanimous vote by the chamber’s board of directors. Gonzales is a Rio Grande Valley native who brings chamber, business and government relations experience, including serving as constituent service representative for U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar. His most recent post was as vice president of special projects and government affairs for the Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Linda Burke, the chairwoman of the Harlingen chamber’s board, said Gonzales brings the right experience and energy needed to serve its members and continue its forward progress. “Harlingen is on the verge of future economic growth and Chris is the type of leader we need,” Burke said. “He is business savvy, and knows the importance of working with different business and government groups in order to promote business.” Burke added that equally important, Gonzales is a hands-on type of leader, with a proven track record of serving members’ needs, which is the chamber’s primary focus. Under Gonzales’ leadership, the Greater Mission Chamber in 2012 was recognized by The Monitor newspaper for growing its membership and for increasing business events and activities for its members. Gonzales said he is honored and excited to be chosen as the next leader of such a valued and respected organization like the Harlingen Area Chamber of Commerce. “Harlingen has a great blend of businesses that honor the significance of its local history, yet welcomes new ventures wanting to establish business here,” Gonzales said. “And I look forward to working with large and small business members alike to continue that positive trend.” Gonzales holds a bachelor of science degree from Texas State University. http://www.brownsvilleherald.com/news/valley/article_7edcf1c0-e86a-11e3-ace2-0017a43b2370.html |
