Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Held for New Starr County Cemetery Fronton, TX.
Starr County Judge Eloy Vera, and County Commissioner Pct. 2 Roy Peña hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Starr County Pct. 2 Cemetery which is located in Fronton, Texas on Friday morning, January 31st. “Welcome everyone to this historic event”, said Commissioner Peña. “Today, I am proud to unveil the first Starr County cemetery which was built to serve the entire county. This land will be the final resting place for the hard working individuals who are part of this great community. I am proud to present to you this marvelous land which was a generous gift from the Chevron oil company”. Also present at the event were representatives from the office of Congressmen Henry Cuellar, the office of Ryan Guillen, the cities of Roma and Rio Grande City, the Mexican city of Miguel Aleman, and several other local organizations and municipalities. “It is my pleasure and honor, to be here today at this very important ribbon cutting ceremony”, said County Judge Eloy Vera. “In the time that I have been County Judge, I have been to numerous ribbon cuttings, and groundbreakings around our community. However, none more significant, or more important than this is to Starr County. It is a certainty in life that we all need a resting place when our time on earth is done. This beautiful site can be a place where we proudly lay our loved ones to rest”. At the regular Commissioner’s Court Meeting of the County of Starr, held in April of last year, at the County Courthouse, Commissioner Roy Peña announced the donation of 29.5 acres of land on Fronton Rd, by Chevron U.S.A. Inc. “This is a big help to Starr County… now we have 29.5 acres on Fronton Rd. that will be converted into a public cemetery for the whole County [not just Pct. #2]. We’re [also] working on a cemetery to honor our veterans” stated Commissioner Roy Peña at the meeting about the land on which the upcoming groundbreaking will held. |
