Dear Friends,
I would like to take this opportunity to inform you on the efforts being set forth this month of September by the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) to recognize the mental health services available for veterans in crisis.
Veterans have placed their lives on the line, for some, in numerous occasions, to protect our country and all that it represents. In result, our men and women have come back from war with certain mental instabilities, most commonly post-traumatic stress disorder.
In support of veterans in crisis, Veteran Affair clinics nationwide are mobilizing a series of campaign strategies to garner support for veterans in need of mental health services.
Throughout the month, mental health coordinators in all 151 VA clinics will organize community events, outreach programs, health fairs, training sessions and voluntary services in order to provide as much assistance as possible to veterans, their families or friends.
VA will also be launching a nationwide public service announcement entitled, "Talking About What Matters" in relation to this year's theme, "It Matters."
The theme emphasizes the people, relationships and experiences that matter to Veterans and their loved ones by reinforcing their personal connections and giving their lives hope and meaning.
