Congressman Henry Cuellar (D-Laredo) issued the following statement on the Mexican presidential election:

I offer my congratulations to President-elect Enrique Peña Nieto on his victory. After meeting with him several times and asking hard questions, I've been impressed by the President-elect and his vision for Mexico's future.

This election is important to us because the U.S. and Mexico share far more than a border: Mexico is a crucial security and trade partner that exchanges $1 billion in commerce each day with our country and supports 6 million American jobs. I am confident that President-elect Peña Nieto will be a valuable ally with the United States on key issues like trade and border security, and I look forward to a continued strong relationship between our two countries.
