Laredo Constituent Joins Me for State of the Union Address

Last week, I hosted Laredo eighth grade educator Maribel Urbina during President Obama's State of the Union address on Jan. 20 in Washington. Maribel was able to get a first-hand experience into how our government works and will discuss the President's speech with her students.
Homeland Security Discusses Goals
The Department of Homeland Security discussed their mission and goals with myself and other members of Congress on Jan. 22 in Washington.


Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson led the discussion with members of Congress last Thursday.


I spoke to Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection Gil Kerlikowske about border security during the orientation.

Honoring Judge Stella Saxon
My outreach coordinator for Atascosa and Wilson Counties, Gilbert Lafuente, presented the 281st Judicial District Court's Honorable Judge Stella Hartman Saxon of Karnes City, Texas, with a Congressional Certificate of Recognition on Jan. 20.

Saxon has served the citizens of Atascosa, Frio, Karnes, LaSalle and Wilson Counties for over two decades and has contributed greatly to many communities in South Texas.


Cotulla Residents Turn Out for ACA Workshop
My office hosted an Affordable Care Act (ACA) health coverage workshop at Cotulla High School in La Salle County on Jan. 23.

Families Enroll in Health Care in Mission

Families and individuals were able to get their questions answered and sign up for health insurance plans during an ACA workshop I hosted at the Speer Memorial Library in Mission, Texas, on Jan. 23.


Meeting with Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, Rep. Michael McCaul
My Southern District Outreach Coordinator, Nichole Hernandez, attended a meeting with Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX10), chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, and other leaders to discuss border security and funding on Jan. 25 in Mission.

Visiting with Rio Grande City's New Police Chief
My Outreach Coordinator, Narda Terrones, recently visited Rio Grande City’s new Chief of Police, Noe Castillo, to see how our offices can work together to serve the local community.
