Congressional Report

Dear Friends,

In Washington, we returned to session this past Tuesday, where I am continuing to work on passing legislation that is beneficial to our district.

In the district, I had a series of events, including a press conference to announce legislative priorities and wins I secured in the final spending bill, which will benefit Joint Base San Antonio. These funds will support the Defense Manufacturing Community Program, the Defense Communities Infrastructure Program (DCIP), and educational opportunities to advance U.S. cybersecurity interests.

My staff also participated in several events and meetings, including neighborhood office hours and presenting Library of Congress books to the Charlotte Public Library in Atascosa County.

I have also included a video from the U.S.Department of Education with useful information regarding college scorecards.

As always, please contact one of my offices if you need assistance with any federal agency.

Rep. Cuellar Discusses Legislative Wins for Joint Base San Antonio

On Monday, January 7, I announced legislative wins I either secured or helped secure in the final spending bill at a press conference in San Antonio, TX. During the conference, I was joined by Major General (Ret) Juan Ayala, who gave valuable insight into how these funds would impact Joint Base San Antonio and the community. Funds include $50 million for the Defense Communities Infrastructure Program (DCIP), $25 million for Defense Manufacturing Communities Support Program, and $5.5 million for educational opportunities to advance San Antonio's cybersecurity interests. Zapata County Neighborhood Office Hours

On Tuesday, January 7, my Outreach Coordinator for La Salle, Webb, and Zapata Counties, Orlando Ramirez, visited the Sheriff's Office in Zapata County during Neighborhood Office Hours. While visiting the Sheriff's office Orlando had the opportunity to sit down and talk to Chief Deputy Raymundo Del Bosque about new updates in the community. Library of Congress Books Presented to Charlotte Public Library in Atascosa County

On Friday, January 3, my Outreach Coordinator for Atascosa, Bexar, McMullen and Wilson Counties, Gilbert Lafuente, presented Mary Ann McGinnis of the Charlotte Public Library with a box of Library of Congress books. Pictured from left to right is Mary Ann McGinnis and Gilbert Lafuente.

2020 Census is Hiring Thousands
Once every 10 years, the Census Bureau counts each resident in the United States. This is no easy feat and it takes the support of thousands of people. The Census is hiring in our district and looking to fill various positions, such as clerks, recruiting assistants, office operations supervisors, census field supervisors and census takers. If you’re interested in being a part of something critical to our nation, check out all the job listing for the 2020 Census here.

U.S. Department of Education: College Scorecards

The U.S. Department of Education has a College Scorecard on their website, which allows you to analyze and compare public institutions, private institutions, community colleges and certificate granting schools. This way you can decide what the right fit is for you, both personally and financially. To use the scorecard, click here.

This video from the U.S. Department of Education features information on the benefits of using their scorecard and how to navigate it.

Sincerely,
Henry Cuellar
