Dear Friends,

Last week I returned to Washington where I am taking up a number of issues affecting Texas and my district. I also met with the San Antonio delegation on their annual SA to DC trip, where I met with civic and business leaders to discuss federal issues concerning San Antonio.

Discussing Surge in Cuban Migration on Fox News' Neil Cavuto Coast to Coast


On Wednesday, I spoke with Fox Business' Neil Cavuto, host of the Neil Cavuto Coast-to-Coast show about the surge in Cuban migration to the United States and U.S.-Cuba relations. The majority of Cuban migrants have been entering through the Port of Laredo, in my district.


Rep. Cuellar Announces $900,000 Federal Grant to TAMIU for Substance Abuse, HIV/AIDS Prevention Program in Webb County

On January 29, I announced a $900,000 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), to Texas A&M International University and SCAN in Laredo for the development of a prevention program for substance abuse and HIV/AIDS as well as viral hepatitis in Webb County. Meeting with San Antonio Leaders in Washington


This week I met with civic and business leaders from San Antonio in Washington during the 38th Annual ‪SA to DC trip. This annual trip is a chance for San Antonio leaders to discuss issues such as education, military, healthcare, energy, technology, manufacturing, trade and more with federal leader in our nation's capital. Visiting with the Home Health Care Association of Texas

Last week, I met with the Home Health Care Association in Austin, Texas, to discuss home health care issues affecting residents in my district. I also met with Mary Tieken of Floresville, pictured here, whom my office helped settle an insurance issue with TRICARE recently.

Visiting with Constituents in Mission


Last Sunday, I was in Mission visiting with constituents and veterans to hear their concerns and I also attended the Texas Citrus Parade.


Discussing Water Quality and Access with the USDA in Wilson County
On January 28, my outreach coordinator for Wilson County, Gilbert Lafuente, met with Wilson County Commissioner Albert Gamez (left) and Raul Gonzales, Operations Management Specialist (center) with the Rural Community Assistance Program at Communities Unlimited (a program of the USDA) to locate funding to provide water to an area of northwest Wilson County to replace inefficient water wells.

Honoring 30 Years of International Trade Expertise in Laredo
On January 27, my district press secretary, Rafael Benavides, presented IBC Bank International Division Executive Vice President Gerald “Gerry” Schwebel with a congressional certificate of recognition for his outstanding service to the Laredo border community and his expertise in international trade for the last 30 years. Mr. Schwebel also received the Paul Harris Fellow honor from the Laredo Gateway Rotary, which acknowledges individuals and businesses that embody the Rotarian spirit of providing “service above self."


Meeting with Offiiclas to Help Improve Agricultural Inspections at Our International Ports of Entry
On January 29, my southern district outreach coordinator, Nichole Hernandez, attended a conference with Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller at the Pharr International Bridge to discuss a grant from the Texas Department of Agriculture to help ensure produce and other agricultural products entering the U.S. are inspected in a timely fashion.
